Strange story amazing fallacies......
So I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be recognized as a white/non-Christian. Don’t get me wrong; I believe in God, or at least a higher power, just not organized religion, per say.
So I had to fly from Vancouver to Edmonton this past Sunday as I was in Vancouver celebrating the life of my great uncle. The word funeral is so… well… flat! Finished! Over…. After watching Little Mosque on the Prairie, I wondered what it would be like to be a Muslim woman. Now let me first state that I meant NO disrespect whatsoever…. If anything I wanted to learn – as I believe that ignorance fuels racism. My friend Nan just gave me a beautiful blue silk scarf, so I made myself up with a chador - hijab (I looked like a fat, pale, Egyptian) to see people’s reactions. http://www.themuslimwoman.com/
I received everything from overtly nice people that commented how beautiful I was to a stewardess that made rude huffing gestured towards me every time she passed. As I watched her she would ensure that she had one eye on me while she served others and always snarled. I even had a group of young men behind me, on the way down the platform, comment that the airlines must not care about Canadian flights, as it’s obvious ‘they’ will let any terrorist onboard.
The strange thing is that I had been sitting in the waiting area to board my flight and no one noticed me until I put on my hijab.
When I got off the plane and was just about to meet my overly-red-necked-dirty-unshaven-husband, I removed the scarf and put it around my neck again. To my surprise could over hear a group of women from my flight complain on how blasphemous I was. Strange… as I just wore a scarf on my head and probably didn’t even have it on properly.
Then... to top everything else off I received my luggage 5 to 10 minutes after everyone else and it had obviously been gone through.
