WASTE!

The idea of having a nuclear power plant in ANY part of Alberta is disturbing close to our home let alone any place in this world. We may not have earthquakes, but we do have severe weather such as tornadoes and +40 oC to -40 oC weather.

The other main issues we are concerned about with this Nuclear Power Plant in High Level or Whitecourt is the people in these communities and the ones down river from the plant. The nuclear waste is evident to be harmful to the people and the environment. What will be done to the nuclear waste that is produced by this (these) plants?

We are very concerned about the people in the Athabasca Lake area that already have to deal with the pollution and death from the oil, gas and forestry industries upstream from them. We live out side of Hinton and see our friends here die of cancers and breathing disorders that have never been addressed. The town pumps its 'treated' waste into the Athabasca River, along with the garbage from the pulp mill and away it goes downstream. Adding nuclear waste to this will be detrimental, not helpful.

We are a VERY windy area - why hasn't someone from the government installed wind generators? It's very sunny here all year long, why hasn't the government proposed solar power?

We feel that the reason behind all of this is money: Who's going to make the most?

When are we going to stop sacrificing people's lives for the all mighty dollar? From government think tanks that are over consulted to the over zealous pushers of these negative energy sector companies - people are just over run with information and don't want to speak up, until it's too late.

What Canada is doing, slowly, to the health of its people - Death - is this the answer to our energy crisis?
