Boycott!
I know this is far away for some of you on the E mail list, but please... help me support this cause: Don't go to Smutty's in Hinton, AB.
I have two dear friends that I consider family in the town of Hinton. They both own business and help out any way they can in this community. I will give you a brief lowdown on their situation...
Friend one has maintenance company and rushed over to assist the owner of Smutty's in Hinton when there was a problem... this was WELL over a year ago and the owner of Smutty's still hasn't paid the bill siting that he felt it was too much. Let's see -40oC weather, an emergency call out, crew and equipment... I would expect to pay a bit for that.
Friend two has a small but beautiful shop in town. This woman has a heart of gold and would help anyone. She is so kind and gentle.... Smutty's in Hinton has taken advantage of this. Smutty's remodeled after cashing in on the Hinton boom and the oil worker's. A lot of companies remodeled after that. They (the owner) was in a bind to decorate their 'new' place and my friend was approached to help. They bought over $10,000 in stuff from her store - now let me tell you.. she almost sold this to them at cost - making little to no profit. She knew they needed the help. They were to pay her just after new year. It is now April (almost 4 months) and after talking to the owner of Smutty's and sending notices in the mail.... nothing. Not a dime. This is money out of her pocket now.
I know that there is claims court and procedure. But I have made a decision NEVER to grace Smutty's in Hinton again with my business until these bills are paid. Help me support these people and avoid Smutty's in Hinton.

Update:
I was asked by my friend to please send out an apology note as the person in question has threatened his lawyers on her. I stand by my friend and hope that this injustice is rectified - as well as the one to my other friend. This is NOT good business technique, this is not the way people should treat each other. But I stand by the fact that I will never grace that establishment with my hard earned dollars - ever.
So - to the owner of the establishment - I called Smutty's. Although I have never enjoyed your personal company as I have seen first hand how you treat members of the public and people that deal with you. How you deal with your finances and business is your dealings.
I am SO truly sorry that you are offended - I deeply care for certain people in this town and their honest businesses. These people are family to me and I support them with a union like mentality. I will always say my peace with my thoughts and feelings, that is who I am. I grew up standing for what I believe in, and always will.
